Vale Claire McLintock
We are deeply saddened by the passing of Dr Claire McLintock after her battle with breast cancer. Claire was past president of SOMANZ as well as past president of the International Society of Haemostasis and Thrombosis and the Thrombosis and Haemostasis Australian and New Zealand society. Her far reaching contributions to obstetric medicine and haematology in women’s health was recognised in her being awarded as an officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit.
Claire was a tour de force in the international obstetric medicine and haematology communities who also reached so many at a local level. Known for her clinical expertise in women’s health and obstetric medicine, she brought vibrancy, intelligence and wit to her clinical practice and teaching. She was a courageous and strong advocate for many causes including disadvantaged women, indigenous populations, women’s health, women in medicine and minority groups within medicine, and ensured that any international guideline she helped author had a strong voice from the Southern Hemisphere.
She will be sorely missed as a clinician, a teacher and a mentor. We are deeply honoured as a society that we were able to listen to her impart wise words to us one last time at our SOMANZ conference in October this year. Our thoughts are with her family and loved ones. R.I.P.
Claire’s service is on New Year’s eve at 1400 hours NZT. The link for the live-stream is https://www.dreamproductions.co.nz/mclintock.
A tribute to Dr Claire McLintock by Dr Briony Cutts
The Queen of Hearts
Flaming red hair
A warm and witty
Waxing of the lyrical
A shining beacon
Of hope and inspiration
From the land of highlands
And the long white cloud
Inclusive
Compassionate
Inspiring
Charismatic
To be sorely missed
A splash of life
And always colour
And Laughter
Lots of laughter
Humour is good medicine
A source of hope
A mentor
To women
For women
Who become mothers
And the next generation
Their hearts beat stronger
Because of you
You are in grand company
Dr Claire McLintock
A rightful queen amongst Queens
