About Us

SOMANZ (Society of Obstetric Medicine of Australia and New Zealand) was formed in 2004 following the amalgamation of ASSHP (Australasian Society for the Study of Hypertension in Pregnancy) and OMGA (the Obstetric Medicine Group of Australasia).

SOMANZ is now a public company limited by guarantee.  The transfer from being an incorporated association in NSW with the Department of Fair Trading was completed on 7 July 2025.

The current membership consists of Obstetric Physicians, General and Specialist Physicians, Advanced Trainees, Registrars, Midwives, Obstetricians, Research Scientists, Pharmacists, PhD Students and some research midwives.

The Society currently has in excess of 300 active members and membership is open to any person who is engaged in research or in practice of the broad field of hypertension in pregnancy or obstetric medicine, or who has demonstrated particular interest in this area.
