Society Activities

SOMANZ offers the following benefits to all Financial Members:

Membership Categories & Eligibility

Ordinary Members (Tier 1 and Tier 2)

Any person who is engaged in research, or in the practice of the broad field of hypertension in pregnancy or obstetric medicine, or who has demonstrated particular interest in this area, is eligible for election as a Member. A student is classified as a member who is involved in advanced training, or an undergraduate studying in the board area of health sciences (part time or full time) with an annual income limit of A$35,000.

Student Membership (Tier 3)

Applicants who are full-time or part-time students of an undergraduate or postgraduate degree are eligible for student membership. Proof of enrolment may be requested.

Affiliate Overseas Membership (Low-Middle Income Countries)

This category of membership is for clinicians and researchers from low-middle income countries.  It offers all the benefits of Ordinary Membership but excludes voting rights at the Annual General Meeting and no hard copy of the Obstetric Medicine Journal, however, online access to the journal is included.  To apply, please email SOMANZ at admin@somanz.org and provide a brief covering letter and CV.

Retired Membership

This category is for existing SOMANZ members who are fully retired from clinical practice but wish to remain in contact with the Society and remain as a member.

Honorary Life Members

Any person, distinguished in the study of hypertension in pregnancy or obstetric medicine at home or abroad, who has made material contributions to the advancement of hypertension in pregnancy or obstetric medicine, may be made an Honorary Life Member by the approval of the Council.

 

Membership Fees

SOMANZ Membership is for 12 months usually from the day you join.

Please Note: Membership includes the quarterly Obstetric Medicine Journal for financial members only. Unfinancial members will not receive the journal (hard copy) retrospectively if membership is paid after the subscription renewal due date. Online access to the journal will also be suspended for unfinancial members.

Fees for Australian Members

Tier 1 – Medical Practitioners – A$242.00 (includes $22 GST)

This tier includes independent medical practitioners in current clinical practice (eg. Physicians, Obstetricians, General Practitioners etc).

Tier 2 – Researchers, Nurses, Allied Health and Registrars – A$121.00 (includes $11 GST)

This tier includes Basic Researchers, Registered Nurses, Midwives, Registrars, Advanced Trainees, and any other health professional (medical or scientific) working in Obstetric Medicine.

Tier 3 – Students and Retired – A$55.00 (includes $5 GST)

This tier includes medical and scientific students who are enrolled in a training program and have not graduated and are not earning a salary over $35K.  This tier also includes members who have retired from clinical practice.

Fees for New Zealand and Residents outside Australia

Tier 1 – Medical Practitioners – A$220.00 (no GST)

This tier includes independent medical practitioners in current clinical practice (eg. Physicians, Obstetricians, General Practitioners etc).

Tier 2 – Researchers, Nurses, Allied Health and Registrars – A$110.00 (no GST)

This tier includes Basic Researchers, Registered Nurses, Midwives, Registrars, Advanced Trainees, and any other health professional (medical or scientific) working in Obstetric Medicine.

Tier 3 – Students and Retired – A$50.00 (no GST)

This tier includes medical and scientific students who are enrolled in a training program and have not graduated and are not earning a salary over $35K.  This tier also includes members who have retired from clinical practice.

Tier 4 – Associate Members – A$25 (no GST)

This tier includes medical practitioners and scientific researchers from low-middle income countries.  This level of membership does not include a hard copy of the Obstetric Medicine Journal but does provide access online.  Please apply by email to admin@somanz.org and provide a CV and covering letter.

Tier 5 – Honorary Life Members 

Are not required to pay membership fees to the Society.

 

Membership Approval Process

The content of all online applications will be checked.  Please ensure you complete all fields when completing the online application.  Incomplete information will delay the finalisation of your membership.  All applications are submitted for consideration at the next SOMANZ Council Meeting. The Society office will notify applicants by email f there are any issues with their membership application. New member applicants are interim members and can login into the Member area of the SOMANZ website prior to final approval. The successful applicant will receive the Obstetric Medicine Journal (hardcopy) once their application is ratified by council.

Please ensure you provide a Nominator when you apply.  If you do not know a current SOMANZ member then please email a brief CV to the Society at admin@somanz.org to avoid any delay in finalising your membership.

Privacy Policy

Please read the SOMANZ Privacy Policy below prior to applying for membership.

The Society of Obstetric Medicine of Australia and New Zealand (SOMANZ) complies with the Australian Privacy Principles; The Privacy Amendment (Enhancing Privacy Protection) Act 2012, effective 12 March 2014. Personal information provided by Members, or that has been provided prior to 12 March 2014, will only be used or disclosed by the Society in accordance with the National Privacy Principles for purposes directly related to membership of the Society.

The Society will not disclose personal information to third parties except to hospitals and other health institutions, medical colleges and specialist medical societies, and to service providers, and only for purposes directly related to:

  • providing education, training and continuing medical education / professional development;
  • the supply of services and products endorsed by or associated with the Society; and
  • membership of the Society.

In such circumstances the Society will use all reasonable efforts to ensure that the recipient handles such personal information in accordance with appropriate privacy principles and only for the purpose for which it was provided. Future requests for any Member to provide or update personal information will be accompanied by a request for the Member’s consent for any disclosure of that information in accordance with the privacy legislation.
