SOMANZ International Travel Grant

The Society of Obstetric Medicine of Australia and New Zealand (SOMANZ) would like to offer a travel grant to a medical practitioner from a low or middle income country to attend our Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM). The meeting is designed as a collaboration between Obstetricians and Physicians to foster learning and research in the areas of Obstetric Medicine.  The meeting this year will be held in Cairns, Far North Queensland from 13-15 July.

We welcome applications for this grant of up to $5,000 which is intended to cover airfares, accommodation and registration to our conference.

Applicants need to describe, in less than 500 words, their current area of practice, how attendance at our conference might benefit the hospital or community they work in and will need to provide feedback post conference to their colleagues as well as a brief report on their experience at our meeting for SOMANZ.

Applications in the form of a brief letter (no more than 2 pages) should be sent to the SOMANZ Secretariat, on email admin@somanz.org.  Please provide a budget quoting anticipated costs associated with your attendance with your application.

SOMANZ Council Nominations 2018

The Society of Obstetric Medicine of Australia and New Zealand (SOMANZ) is now calling for nominations for Council.   The two year term will commence on 14 July 2018 at the conclusion of the Annual General Meeting.  The nominee for Council, the proposer and the seconder ALL need to be current financial members of the SOMANZ.  We look forward to receiving your nominations by midnight on Friday 11 May 2018.

2017-18 SOMANZ SUBSCRIPTION RENEWALS

The 2017 Society of Obstetric Medicine of Australia & New Zealand Membership Fees are now due for renewal. The SOMANZ Subscription period is from 1 July to 30 June. Please note that the Obstetric Medicine Journal is only available to financial members. Please make sure your contact details and member profile are complete and up-to-date prior to submitting payment for your membership. We prefer you to make payment online via the SOMANZ website. Credit card payments by MasterCard or Visa are only accepted. We also accept cheque payments; please contact the SOMANZ Secretariat for a Subscription Renewal Tax Invoice to send together with your cheque payment to the SOMANZ Office. If you do not wish to remain a member of SOMANZ, please send an email to the SOMANZ Secretariat at admin@somanz.org advising your reason for membership resignation. The 2017 SOMANZ Membership Renewals are due by Friday 30 June 2017.

SOMANZ ASM AWARDS & TRAVEL GRANTS

The Society makes available a number of awards at the Annual Scientific Meeting. Applications are called for as part of the abstract submission process and are judged at the ASM.


SOMANZ PRESIDENT'S AWARD

The SOMANZ President’s Award will be given to the best oral clinical presentation by any SOMANZ member at the Annual Scientific Meeting.  The award is for A$1000 and will be judged by an expert panel throughout the meeting and awarded on the final day.


SOMANZ ANDREW PHIPPARD MEMORIAL AWARD

The SOMANZ Andrew Phippard Memorial Award will be given to the best oral scientific presentation by a junior SOMANZ member during the meeting.  This award is for A$1000 and will be judged by an expert panel throughout the meeting and awarded on the final day.


SOMANZ BEST POSTER AWARD

The SOMANZ Best Poster Award will be available during the Annual Scientific Meeting. Please indicate if you wish to be considered for the Poster Award during the abstract submission process. You must be a SOMANZ member to apply and must be standing by your poster at the time of the poster session. The SOMANZ Poster Award is to the value of A$750.


SOMANZ TRAVEL GRANTS 

Applications will be invited from junior SOMANZ members to apply for a Travel Grant to attend the Annual Scientific Meeting.  The travel grants are to the value of A$500. Applicants must be a financial member of SOMANZ at the time of application and be presenting at the meeting. Applications (in the form of a brief letter from a supervisor or department head) should be sent to the SOMANZ Secretariat via email to: sneylon@somanz.org. Please use “SOMANZ Travel Grant Application” in the subject line of your email.

A Patient Blood Management Guidelines progress update is now available on the National Blood Authority website. A pdf version of the update is also attached here for your convenience or please visit the PBM Guidelines webpage (http://www.blood.gov.au/pbm-guidelines-updates) to keep you informed of progress and encourage wider clinical input into the development of the guidelines. Ninth Annual Report of the New Zealand Perinatal and Maternal Mortality Review Committee (updated 23 June 2015)

This report considers perinatal and maternal mortality and morbidity from 1 January to 31 December 2013; perinatal mortality from 2007 to 2013; maternal mortality from 2006 to 2013; severe and rare maternal disorders of preganncy from 2010 to 2013; and babies with neonatal encephalopathy from 2010 to 2013.

 

 

SOMANZ Guidelines for the Management of Hypertensive Disorders of Pregnancy 2014

SOMANZ has revised the 2008 Management of Hypertensive Disorders of Pregnancy Guidelines. These are the recommendations of a multidisciplinary working party convened by the Society of Obstetric Medicine of Australia & New Zealand. They reflect current medical literature and the clinical experience of members of the working party.

Release of Patient Blood Management Guidelines: Module 5 Obstetrics and Maternity

The National Blood Authority (NBA) is pleased to announce that the Patient Blood Management Guidelines: Module 5 – Obstetrics and Maternity and accompanying Quick Reference Guide PDFs are now available and can be downloaded from the NBA website (http://www.blood.gov.au/pbm-module-5). Module 5 is intended to assist and guide health-care professionals in making clinical decisions when managing pregnant and postpartum women. Questions regarding the release of Module 5 – Obstetrics and Maternity should be directed to guidelines@blood.gov.au.
